Irish Law and Session Cookies

This week the Republic of Ireland's Data Protection Commissioner has released the Irish government's guidance on complying with their version of the cookie law. What is really interesting about this is their take on the application of the law to session cookies.

BBC Technology Blog Covers ICO Traffic Story

This story has been going round the blogs in the last few days, but with the Beeb's own Rory Cellan-Jones stepping up to comment on it, the ICO's drop in visitor stats is set to become an even hotter topic. And having just released the first beta of our own cookie law tool this week, it seemed appropriate to comment.

We are delighted to announce that we have begun the process of opening up our cookie database. We have published today a new search page on the website which you can use to look up any domain and see a list of unique cookie names we have recorded against that domain.

Firefox 5 Compatible Cookie Collector Released

We have today released version 1.2 of the Firefox version of the cookie Collector, making it fully compatible with Firefox 5. We urge all our users to download the new version of the plug-in today.

US Not Outside the EU Cookie Law

European Commissioner Viviane Reding was in the UK this week and The Register secured an interview with her. Reding is an advocate of consumer privacy, and although she was talking about privacy in a broader sense that the new cookie regulations, a lot of what she had to say will be interesting in terms of the direction the EU is heading.

It has been a very successful way of promoting a website, and it's an easy way to get on the 'social web' bandwagon, so it's not surprising it's so popular.
