Cookie Audit Completed? – Now Do It Again

So you’ve had your cookie audit done one way or another, you have updated your cookies policy to list all the cookies your site sets, and you may have even gone so far as to put a consent mechanism in place so visitors can opt-in or out of your cookies.

You can put your feet up now can’t you?

Unfortunately not.

The dynamic nature of the web means that for most sites, their cookies are likely to change on a regular basis. This is especially true with the third party cookies that as a website owner you may have little control over.

And of course, if you make changes to your site on a regular basis – adding new types of content, or moving to a new content management system (CMS), then this is likely to change the cookies you are setting too.

This all adds up to the fact that you really need to think about how you are going to ensure your cookie disclosure is kept up to date.  In most cases this doesn’t mean a repeat of a full initial cookie audit – but having something in place that checks for new cookies on a regular basis is important.

This is one of the reasons we built the Optanon Auditor in a way that you can leave it running in the background, and whenever you go to your site – it will be checking for new cookies.

And, for clients that have purchased a licence to display an Optanon consent notice, the Auditor reports new cookies to the administration interface automatically – meaning clients are never more than a few clicks away from updating their notices.

So if you have a relatively dynamic site and want to make sure you are continuing to keep your cookies disclosure up to date, maybe you should get started with Optanon today.
