ICO Sends Warnings on Cookie Law Compliance

It has emerged this week that the ICO has sent letters to the owners of 75 of the UK’s top websites, asking them about their cookie law compliance.

Computerworld UK was even going so far as to name them.

The companies were invited to demonstrate what action they have taken to comply with the law.  Where compliance has not yet been achieved they have been given 28 days to explain why and set out their plan for getting there.

Their intention is clear.  If they can get the big, influential sites to comply, the rest of the market will most likely follow.

To all those who thought this law would die a quiet death with the passing of the deadline – this is a real warning shot.

If you haven’t done anything about compling yet, you really need to get started now.
