New Optanon Auditor ReleasedBy: Richard Beaumont | Friday, March 23, 2012 | Tagged: Optanon, Cookie Audit | Leave Comment
We have released a new version of the Optanon Auditor this week, which contains two important changes as well as several minor ones.
The Auditor now submits more data back to our systems - so we can provide improved services to assess how they are impacted by the ePrivacy Regulations.
The data we are now gathering includes both values and full URLs showing the pages that each cookie was downloaded from.
Using this information it is possible to both get a better understanding of the purpose of many cookies, as well as whether they are site wide or limited to particular pages.
Both of these pieces of information help to evaluate how important any cookie is to a site as well as how intrusive it might be and therefore requires visitor consent.
However, it is also true that this means it is now collecting data that in some rare instances could contain personally identifiable information. We have therefore taken steps to ensure the data we collect is secure, and are registering with the ICO as a Data Controller.
Anyone who registers for the Optanon Auditor will be automatically sent a link the new version. If you have already installed a previous version via a link emailed to you - clicking on this will enable you to download and install the new one.
